North Fujian,eastern Fujian and south Zhejiang are close neighbors geographically.They have plenty of similarities of vernacular architecture.This dissertation takes the cultural overlapping areas of Zhejiang and Fujian provinces in history,containing Wenzhou,Ningde and Fuzhou,as the objects of investigation.Through the analysis of the characteristics of the hall pattern of this region,the dissertation aims to explore its historical origin.The first part of this dissertation discusses the development background of traditional dwellings in south Zhejiang and eastern Fujian.Based on their historical frequent migration,similarities in the aspect of folk customs and cultures,the dissertation will regard the south Zhejiang and eastern Fujian as a region.In the second part,the features of hall pattern of traditional dwellings in south Zhejiang and eastern Fujian was analyzed which contain the monomer planar pattern,classification,interior furnishings and so on And from the aspects of openness or closeness of the hall and section,the dissertation further discusses the differences of hall pattern in south Zhejiang and eastern Fujian.And then,the dissertation concentrated on the characteristics and distribution of front-rear hall,which is the typical regional feature in south Zhejiang and eastern Fujian.On account of the ancient features of construction technology the traditional dwellings present,the dissertation attempts to explore the relationship between front-rear halls and ancient residential buildings' layout.In the end,from the perspective of the history of immigration,the dissertation analyzes the similarities between folk customs,culture and language in south Zhejiang and eastern Fujian and those in the Central China of Tang and Song dynasties.It is concluded that front-rear halls should be derived from the historical inheritance of regional culture.
