The Protection And Inheritance Of Doors,Windows And Other Decorations In Traditional Dwellings In The South Yangtze

The northerners gradually moved into the south Yangtze River area after the "An-Shi Rebellion"in the Tang Dynasty.In the Southern Song dynasty,the economic center of gravity shifted from the north to the south,forming an economic pattern that the South stayed ahead of the North.Thereafter,Jiangsu and Zhejiang area became the most developed economic center in China,and the Taihu basin became the famous national granary.There was a saying circulating wide that "Grain in the Taihu basin supplied the whole country".The rapid development of commodity economy promoted the prosperity of culture and art,and laid the foundation of cultural and artistic development at the same time.Prosperity of economy and culture produced the fruitful literature and art.The beauty of the south Yangtze River area lies in the environment,which is regarded as a paradise on earth.Due to natural factors and cultural factors,the local folk houses had strong regional characteristics with elegant and subtle artistic atmosphere,especially highlighted in terms of doors and windows decoration.The dwelling decoration is influenced by such factors as social politics,economy,culture,art,literature,history,folklore,and forms a unique style at home.Starting with their historical background,this thesis sorts the relevant materials,on the basis of the field investigation on the doors and windows decoration in this area,so it categorizes doors as stone-ringed door,floral pendant door,ledged door,flush door,aita door,and classifies windows as long window,half window,removable window,empty window,with the decorative patterns of animals,plants,utensils,geometrical forms,plots,and the stuff like that.It also makes the further research on their crafts,skills,scale and proportion,materials.Then,combined with the historical background,it researches the cultural connotations of nature concept,personal philosophy,Feng shui view,and studies on the aesthetical view on the aesthetical of lines,composition,education,moral,and interactivity.It summanes and extracts their decorative and cultural connotation,and states the rich cultural value of the dwellings in the south Yangtze River area,and sets forth the principle and measures of protection and inheritance form the professional perspective of environment design,which provides the richer resources for the contemporary constructive decoration of dwellings,so as to take the full advantage of the traditional culture,in protecting and inheriting their material and spiritual value,and to create more design confirming to the aesthetical concepts of Chinese traditional arts.
