Both the validity of the defense in depth and the integrity of multiple barriers depend on the required and operational reliability of systems and equipments. Therefore, the reliability of systems and equipments is the essence of safety of nuclear power plants (NPPs). So it is of great significance to analyze the safety of NPPs from the system reliability perspective.According to the theory of reliability, the Nuclear Power Plant Safety Analysis Based on the Reliability Model (RSA) is established based on the two definitions. One is the safety of NPPs. The other one is the life profile of the safety of NPPs. Similar to the research of product reliability,RSA puts the matter of nuclear safety into the "safety profile" during the research. In the "safety profile",the safety assessment could reflect the events that related to the nuclear safety and the conditions distinctly. The issues of nuclear safety analyzed is include in the safety profile of " ? condition" and? condition". Firstly, RSA ascertains the events that related to the nuclear safety in the safety profile, and provides the function that actualizes the events based on the operating condition and environment. Then the systems and the equipment could be found based on the functions. In addition, the reliability block diagrams (RBDs) could be built based on the logical relations between different systems, system and its equipment, different equipment. Finally, RSA could analyze the nuclear safety under the safety profiles and achieve the qualitative and quantitative descriptions based on the RBDs.The results prove that RSA could describe the safety of NPPs under the safety profiles based on the RBDs of the events that related to the nuclear safety. From the logic, RSA possesses the foundation to analyze the nuclear safety under the safety profiles, and to achieve the quantitative results.
