Research On The Cultural Metaphor Of Hui-zhou Ancient Dwellings

Architecture is the carrier of culture,which reflects the political,economic and cultural life of a particular region in a given period of time.Hui-zhou ancient dwellings with rich cultural metaphors,are telling people about the past glories of ancient Huizhou through its unique shapes,layouts and decorations,making a great contribution to the development and heritage of Chinese cultures.This paper aims to give a detailed interpretation and analysis of the cultural metaphors of Hui-zhou ancient residential architecture with both texts and pictures and the main research methods employed are literature consulting,on-the-spot investigation and qualitative analysis etc.The research findings demonstrate that the main cultural metaphors embedded in Hui-zhou ancient dwellings are the respect for nature,the pursuit of harmony between man and nature,the spirit of hard work,the respect for seniority and the pray for prosperity etc.These traditional cultural ideas still have strong guiding significance in today’s society,an integral part of the traditional Chinese Cultural Renaissance project.A research on such cultural metaphors can not only arouse people’s interest in Hui-zhou ancient dwellings but also their protection awareness.Moreover,it can provide useful references and reflections on the future architecture or product design.It is well known that maintaining more national means being more international.Therefore,future designers in architecture and manufacturing fields should not only consider appearances and practical beauties of their products,but also take into account cultural beauty,so as to integrate the traditional cultural elements into design,thus highlighting national characteristics.
