With the continuous development of the transport industry, the traditional computer-aided design technology has become more and more difficult to meet the increasingly complex needs of today's transportation field. Building Information Modeling (BIM) provides a new and efficient working platform for the engineering industry and has made many achievements in the application of architectural engineering. Combining BIM with bridge design work is of great significance on bridge design information technology innovation.This paper is based on a project which named YiYi-Bridge in Zhuhai and researches application of BIM technology during the cable-stayed bridge design process. This paper summarizes the aspects of bridge design applications based on BIM and analyzes the main problems in the application of BIM at the present stage. In view of the causes of these problems, the research on bridge design information management framework, data storage and transmission technology of BIM technology is studiedThen the features and design information flow characteristics of the cable-stayed bridge project is analyzed, and a bridge information modeling BIM data integration management framework is built, which is based on four major technical elements, including digital technology support, data support, management support and standards support. The framework provides a reference for the realization of the management and utilization of bridge engineering BIM data.Depending on the needs of bridge information model and the achievements of existing architectural BIM technology, this paper further proposes XML-based bridge design BIM information classification, storage and transmission technology. Expecting to find new medium for the realization of bridge design information classified storage, and to provide new ways for the realization of data sharing and information exchange application in bridge design. In order to analyze the feasibility of XML as a bridge BIM information storage and transfer format, the data interaction between BIM modeling (management) software and other software is studied. And through the research on concrete cases, structured and unstructured information data storage based on XML in bridge design is explored, XML-based information input and output method is inquired.Finally, this paper takes the part of the information during the design process of the YiYi-Bridge as an example and analyzes its structure information and structural design related information. Through the finite element analysis of the YiYi-Bridge, its global and local member displacement, internal force, stress and other mechanical properties information is obtained. then uses XML to carry on the related design information storage management. At last, the BIM information management for the design of cable-stayed bridge based on XML is summarized, and the information utilization of BIM design in bridge engineering is discussed.
