Cabriolet with openable roof not only has ordinary car use, but also enables people to enjoy the sun, intimate contact with nature. With China's rapid economic development and increasing maturity of auto market, convertible increasingly favored by consumers, sales rising rapidly. However, the Chinese market is completely monopolized by foreign auto makers, national brand urgent development and growth. Given the gaps in the domestic convertible design field, the issue with a certain type of military SUV cabriolet conversion projects as a platform for convertible depth study to initiate and lead research in related fields Cabriolet, the soft-top mechanism preliminary design and reliability studies to lay a foundation.Paper firstly proposed a practical and accurate method for soft top patent search and retrieve the soft top domestic and foreign patent through this method, combined with relevant technical data, summarized four kinds of possible configuration scheme, the general method of selection raised. According to retrofit project vehicle features, determined the design of the soft top folding mechanism configuration. Then convertible roof mechanism carried out dimensional synthesis, extracted the main design parameters to achieve the folding Mechanism of parametric design. Based on this, an optimization model with the objective to maximize the trunk space available to the user was built and solved with CATIA PEO optimization module. Finally, using boundary representation(B-REP), soft-top shape was built with 21 key points. The key points established parameters contact with soft top folding mechanism, the top frame bar, tailstock rod to summary up the overall design parameters of the soft-top frame and achieve soft top frame parametric design. Top-down design methodology established soft-top frame parametric model. And motion simulation analysis was completed to verify the reasonableness of mechanism design.In reliability analysis aspect, FMECA analysis techniques were used to analyze soft top system reliability, completed FMEA forms preparation and CA analysis. Roof locking failure mode was analyzed by using FTA method. And failure to lock to roof as the top event, establish the fault tree mode. Reliability analysis for the pre soft-top design provides a certain amount of reference and basis.
