Garbage truck is one of vehicle products which composite the technologies of machinery, electricity, hydraulic pressure, automation, etc. As the key component of garbage truck, loading device with complex structure has a significant impact on the vehicle design cycle. With the development of collaborative design and the increasing complexity of product, the design and production concepts of garbage truck tend to be modular design and personalized needs. Under this background, configuring the design knowledge of loading device according to customer demand and making the parametric design of complex assembly, so as to realize the rapid design of complex product are the effective means of shortening product development cycle and improving enterprise core competitiveness.Scholars, at home and abroad, did a lot of research on the product configuration and parametric design. However, parametric design technology is not yet mature for complex production. The theory system which combines advantages of product configuration and parametric design is not perfect, and the key technology needs further exploration. So the product parametric design technology of loading device based on the intelligent configuration is presented. According to the actual demand of enterprise, the rapid design system of loading device based on UG NX platform is developed. In this paper, the main research contents include the following aspects:(1) Overall scheme of rapid design system based on modular design is put forward to implement the rapid design of loading device. And the research on the key technologies of system development, including design knowledge extraction, product configuration, parametric design and secondary development technology are conducted, which provide theoretical and technical basis for the following system development.(2) The product intelligent configuration technology based on knowledge engineering is put forward to match between customer requirements and product design knowledge. Configuration characteristic parameters are extracted and product structure tree is built. And then the optimized grey correlation analysis algorithm is presented. This algorithm can accurately extract the optimal configuration knowledge and use the case and rule reasoning method well to get the configuration result of customer satisfaction.(3) The parametric design method based on adaptive reconfiguration and correlation characteristic is proposed to realize parametric design of complex assembly. Parametric design template of three-dimensional models is built. According to the assembly hierarchy model, components can be used for adaptive reconstruction and assembly. Parametric design subsystem is developed by using the NX/Open, which can realize the parametric design of complex structural model and rapid assembly.(4) The parts and components management system is developed to quickly call and generate models of loading device. The system uses XML query technology and parametric design to satisfy the needs of users and designers to quickly browse, search, call and custom assembly parts information, and quickly generate assembly BOM list. Finally product intelligent configuration subsystem, parametric design subsystem and parts and components management subsystem are integrated to develop the rapid design system of loading device based on the UG NX software.
