Research On Outdoor Therapeutic Landscape Design Of The Children's Hospital

With the social concern on the environment of children's mental and physical development,higher standard and requirements are proposed for the therapeutic environment of children's hospital.A therapy-beneficial landscape can perform an enhanced function to improve the patients' curing speed and quality.Current study on therapy-beneficial landscape of children's hospital is at an initial stage in China,the outdated design concept and simplex function cannot meet the recovery demand of children's behavior psychology.Analysis on prominent problems of traditional children's hospital landscape as well as integration,modification and design updating have become urgent issues for community of landscape design.Firstly,the concept,function and types of therapy-beneficial landscape are defined and divided to indicate its positive effect on curing and recovery of patients in this paper.After that,review and analysis on relative researches home and abroad are done,from the design concept,design highlights,Design Inspiration are summarized combined with case study on outstanding designs abroad,hence provided theoretical guidance for following practical researches.Through practical survey on therapy-beneficial landscape in three campuses of Zhengzhou children's hospital,which is known as the largest integrated children's hospital in Asia,questionnaire survey on landscape is done and existing problems of therapy-beneficial landscape in children's hospitals are concluded via analysis on survey results:(1)From macroscopic perspective,location selecting in outdoor environment is relatively thoughtless,the complexity of environment may cast negative effect on utilization and function of therapy-beneficial landscape;(2)From medium scope perspective,there is a lack in construction of entertainment and activity area which highly exposes the drawbacks of traditional landscape design in hospitals.A majority of constructed children's hospitals fail to meet the outdoor therapy demand of children.(3)From microcosmic perspective,drawbacks in plant selection,color design,safety consideration,amount of outdoor relaxing facilities,color selecting and paving of pavements as well as faultiness of public service facilities deserve further improvement.Finally,corresponding optimizing strategy and methods are proposed,while improvement advices for future construction of therapy-beneficial landscape in children's hospitals are illustrated covering six perspectives including legal security system,therapy modes,social humanity care,propaganda and education,design improvement and normative evaluation system.Hopefully this paper will provide reference for future design or renovation of therapy-beneficial landscape in children's hospitals.
