| This paper is a research based on the basical estimation of urban cognition and the invest igation of current traffic problems.The City Landmark Avenue is the city’s main thoroughfare of which the traffic, spaces and landscape features integrated and well-matched, and the axis of urban growth as well. Its external characteristics showed broad scale and well-known, and its intrinsic qualities are in ancient times and excellent quality. Avenue is the core main road which connects the main functional areas, emblematical landscape and landmark building. It is linear element which can connect entity structure and function of the city, organize urban road traffic, and build urban form and order. In other words, it is also city’s main street that the corridors and public spaces are highly coupled. So its attributes of transport and space are both excellent. The city landmark avenue has a unique status and role in the urban road system, which is the embodiment of urban culture and the image of the city’s window and can be described as the city’s central street or City Frist Avenue.Urban main road is an important object of urban planning and traffic design, the City Landmark Avenue is the main road of urban center. So they have always been focused and favored by the circles of academic, political and business. But the rules of its planning and design elements rarely written Given this, the paper is a theoretical research of the Landmark Avenue planning and design from the dual-view of urban planning and transport. This paper firstly defines the existence of city landmark avenue from classical models of urban planning and realistic urban transport, summarizes four remarkable functions of city landmark avenue, including guiding the urban structure form, organizing the system of urban road and transport, inheriting the historic culture, educating landscape environment, and illustrate the significance of the landmark avenue to the urban development. Secondly, the paper discusses the relations between the avenue and urban spatial structure, urban transport, road traffic, noting that avenue is the functional axis of city development, the core main road in urban center district, transportation junction chain, linker roads of urban structure, backbone line of public transportation and urban traffic travel destinations. And then, this chapter discusses its traffic functional orientation, traffic organization along the line, and traffic fine design, and summarized the design rules and essentials of Chinese and foreign outstanding cases, including traffic channelization design, pedestrian crossing design, public transportation design, the road cross section design, the typical intersection design and block entrances design. Finally, it is to assess the state of health of the landmark avenue, which discusses its order of planning and design. A case study of Dalian Zhongshan and Renmin Road, assessing the avenue design order of transport and space by transport and space matrix, to seek the best comprehensive benefits of the avenue. The sixth chapter is the conclusion and prospect.The starting point of this paper is urban traffic, the end result is that consider the city as a unified whole, strive to let the city landmark avenue return to city life itself through the techniques of urban transport planning and design. Transport is dynamic. The transportation mode in avenue should be complete, which is Rail+Bus+Car+Bicycle+Walking. Giving priority to the development of public transport and making the combination of various transportation modes to achieve the coordination of transport system. Every city may have a main street, the city landmark avenue, which roots in the typical city could be better, more pleasant or more precise than generic city. Iconic boulevard is more distinctive and energetic than genetic road. Landmark Avenue is the pulse of the city and the backbone of transport, because along which distributes the source of urban traffic of the urban function and public activities center. Science is oriented transportation planning, and each city and its landmark avenue has each own particularity, that is called territoriality. The city landmark avenue is not the product of instant and simple functional elements of transportation, places and landscape, but a vivid life that has its growth with operating rules, and a multi-dimensional dynamic system of various activities of their mutual influence. |
