With the acceleration of urbanization, the size of city expands continually, population and their travel demand increase greatly, therefore the number of city vehicles has an “explosive growth”, resulting that urban traffic congestion problem has become increasingly prominent. Referring to the successful experience abroad to solve the traffic problem, the big cities in our country should give priority to the development of public transport system with “urban rail transit as the backbone, conventional public transit as the main body”, guiding city residents to public system, as the preferred way to solve the traffic problems. On the present state of our country the construction of urban rail transit is later than that of conventional public transit, which will lead to significant changes in the structure of urban transit system, therefore, it's necessary to adjust conventional public transit lines on the basis of urban rail transit to cooperate with urban rail transit, in order to improve the service level of public transit system. This thesis mainly studies optimization of conventional public transit based on the urban rail transit from three aspects, such as the functional orientation, prediction of conventional public transit passenger flow change, optimization model construction. In terms of function orientation, combined with the development trend of city passenger transportation system, this thesis makes a comparative analysis of urban rail transit and conventional public transit from technical and economic point, and clearly puts forward the positioning of urban rail transit and conventional public transit in urban public transport system. As to the prediction of conventional public transit passenger flow change, it analyzes the reason why urban rail transit attracts conventional public transit passenger flow from the characteristics of travel cost, travel time and travel mode, defines the scope of urban rail transit and makes qualitative and quantitative analysis on the influenced conventional public transit passenger flow changes. In terms of optimization model, it takes urban rail transit as a conventional public transit line which can not be moved, establishes the optimization model, with the objective functions of minimizing the average travel time of public transit passenger and maximizing urban rail transit passenger volume, which adjusts and optimizes conventional public transit line networks. This thesis adopts the methods of mode split to calculate share of conventional public transit passenger flow under the influence of urban rail transit. It is hoped that this thesis can play a positive role in enriching relevant theory and promoting practice development.
