The particle of the polybutadiene latex is required to be large enough to achieve high impact of the ABS resin,it is demanded to be larger than 300 nm.There are two methods of enlarging the particle of the polybutadiene latex,which are one-step process and two-step process.High pressure physical agglomeration method belongs to two-step process,which can enlarge particle size of the polybutadiene latex is used in Tianjin Dagu Chemical Co.Ltd.A wide particle distribution of latex will be got after using this kind of agglomeration method,there are high content of small particle size of polybutadiene latex,which will result in a high fluctuation on mechanical properties.In this paper,the polybutadiene latex with large-size particle was produced by polymer latex agglomeration process.The polybutadiene latex with large-size particle was produced by adding agglomeration agent.In this paper,the process conditions of polymer agglomeration were investigated,which includes the agglomeration time,the agglomeration temperature,the stirring speed,the amount of polymer agglomeration agent and the time of adding agglomeration agent,and the changes of the particle size of polybutadiene latex were inspected during the experiment.The polymer agglomeration agent should be added according to the actual situation,the agglomeration temperature should be 40-50 ?,and should be added in 2-5 minutes,its adding amount should be 2.7-3.2% of the latex,the discharge of the process should be 90 minutes.The evaluation experiments of the polymer agglomeration latex were also studied,which are of great stability,and the results could meet the process requirements,the final results showed the impact property was superior to the similar products(the general formula and the high impact formula)of the company;the desired goal was reached of increasing the impact toughness on ABS resin.All the pilot scale experiments were also finished,the results showed no difference compared to the lab-scale experiments,the latex was investigated in the process period of validity and it was stable,which can meet the process requirements.The polymer agglomeration process on ABS resin was developed in the laboratory by a great deal of experimental research,the particle of polybutadiene latex by agglomeration was unimodal distribution,there were less small particle size of polybutadiene latex,and there appeared no large-size particles.The matching processes of grafting on polybutadiene latex and coagulating on latex were also developed,and the pilot scale experiments were also finished,the impact of ABS resin was improved effectively by using synthetic ABS resin powder.
