Acrylonitrile-1,3-butadiene-styrene copolymer(ABS)is a synthetic resin with excellent comprehensive performance, which has been increasingly mature and widely used.In recent years, the progress of science and living standards and the rise of emerging industries have provided a broader market for synthetic resin, but also put forward higher requirements for its properties such as impulse resistance. In order to seize the opportunity in the competitive pattern and improve the value and competitiveness of materials, the synthesis of high impact resistance ABS resin is studied. In order to prepare the large size latex needed for the synthesis of high resistance ABS resin, the small size butadiene latex was prepared by emulsion polymerization, and n-butyl acrylate and methacrylic acid were prepared into agglomerating agent latex.Acetic acid and agglomerating agent latex were used to agglomerate small size polybutadiene latex, respectively. The agglomeration results showed that with the increasing of acetic acid concentration and dosage, the emulsion particle size is gradually increased, gel precipitation increased, too. When the amount of latex, acetic acid and deionized water remain unchanged, educe the solid content of the latex and increase the acetic acid concentration,it was found that compared to the particle size of 40% solid content, the particle size of PBL with35% solid content was larger. The particle size of PBL increases with the amount of agglomerating agent latex, the content of unsaturated acid and the solid content of PBL,and the gel precipitation also increases. The size distribution obtained by the two methods showed that acacetic acid agglomeration narrowed the emulsion size distribution.More concentrated particle size distribution indicates good uniformity.Polymer agglomeration widens the particle size distribution, bimodal or trimodal distribution of large-size latex appeared. The ABS grafting powder was prepared with acrylonitrile, styrene monomers, and PBL from acetic agglomeration by emulsion polymerization.ABS resin was made by mixing ABS powder and SAN resin. The impact strength, tensile strength, melting index and vicat softening point were tested to study the influence of latex particle size, grafted core-shell ratio and the amount of chain transfer agent in grafting polymerization on the properties of ABS resins. The results show that the impact strength of ABS resin gradually increases with the PBL size.Sample with impact strength higher than high impact ABS 3513 were produced from PBL with a particle size of 326 nm.The tensile strength showed a downward trend, and the melt flow rate decreased significantly after the particle size exceeded 270 nm,indicating that the improvement of latex particle size is conducive to the toughening of ABS resin, but reduces the tensile strength and processing mobility. After testing,it was found that The impact intensity gradually rose to the maximum value and then fell back when the core-shell ratio increases, had a maximum when the core-shell ratio of 70/30.The change of melt flow rate was small, and the tensile strength and vika softening temperature both decreased. The amount of chain transfer agent in emulsion polymerization was changed, the results show that the increase of dodecyl thiol will decrease the grafting rate of emulsion polymerization. The impact strength of ABS resin is the largest when the amount of dodecyl thiol is 0.2% of the mass of the grafted monomer. With the increase of chain transfer agent, the tensile strength gradually decreases, the melt flow rate gradually increases, and the softening temperature of Vka rises first and then decreases. Therefore, the impact performance of ABS resin can be significantly improved by controlling the amount of chain transfer agent as about 0.2% of the grafted monomer, and melt fluidity was raised too. However, when the amount of dodecyl thiol is too much, the grafting rate is too low, which seriously affects the mechanical property of ABS resin.
