Sanitary napkins, diapers and pads surface layers are typically based on hot-air-throughnonwovens, calendaring-bonded nonwovens, thin spun-bonded nonwovens, etc. while hotair-through nonwovens are most popularly used among all of them, because of its fluffy, highpermeable and skin-friendly properties. In addition, spunlace nonwoven material, has been widelyused in the hygienic area around the world. This study combines hot air-through technology andspunlace technology, carding cotton-like PET and some certain proportional ES fiber together toform web with spunlace method, then drying it with hot temperature. The final product hashigh added value, short liquid strike-through time and low cover stock wetback. We studied the cotton-like PET spunlace nonwoven material in order to find thesubstitution of surface material of sanitary napkins, diapers, etc. It was introduced that thecotton-like PET fiber had good properties and cotton-like appearance and handing which couldsubstitute or partly substitute the cotton fiber, thus relieving the short supply of cotton in China. The cotton-like PET fiber we had was tested with nylon66group in it. The nylon66group hasmade the cotton-like PET with longer break elongation, higher hydrophilic property and moistureregain than normal PET fiber. This paper studied the relationship of fabric density, thickness, tensile strength ofcotton-like PET/ES nonwoven material. The study shows, the thickness, tensile strength and airpermeability of the material increase with the increase of rate of ES fiber. Fabric density isproportional to thickness and tensile strength, inversely proportional to the air permeability. Itstensile strength increased and then decreased with the increase of spunlace energy. When thefabric density of the material was larger than50g/m2, which pilling would not happen at all, andthe pore size of it could be considered as the same.In regard to comfort level, we tested the rigidity and softness, bending stiffness, cold-hot sensation, compression performance and compared the20%ES/cotton-like PET spunlace andhot-air-through material with other materials. We found that it was not as good as ES hot-air-through nonwovens on cold-hot sensation, better than pure cotton-like PET spunlace andnormal PET spunlace nonwovens on rigidity and softness of MD and CD directions. Itscompression performance was far away from that of ES hot-air-through nonwovens, which meantits bulking property is poorer than ES hot-air-through nonwovens. In order to solve the problem of long liquid strike-through time, big surface tension ofnonwovens and poor wetting ability, etc, we selected less skin irritant hydrophilic solvent TF629Cto do hydrophilic treatment on all kinds of nonwovens and tested and studied their properties. Wefind that the optimal parameters are that oil rate is8.42%, fabric density is45g/m2,average poresize is78.5μm and thickness is0.888mm, through optimizing liquid strike-through time and coverstock wetback. |
