With the running out of traditional fossil fuels, the worst energy crisis appears in many countries of the world. What's worse, the burning of fossil fuels produces much carbon dioxide and causes global warming. As a result, there is a growing demand for developing new energy and the development of new energy has become a focus of many countries in their economic development.Sci-tech texts, especially those concerning energy have been attracting more and more attention from scholars both at home and abroad. As a special category of sci-tech text, geology text shares the features of sci-tech texts. In terms of lexical feature, geology text often adopts professional terminologies and compound words.Emotional words and expressions are seldom used in it.As for syntactic feature, long and complex sentences, sentences in passive voice and nominalization-structured sentences are frequently used in geology text to enhance its logicality, objectivity and systematicness.Accurate translation of geology texts is of vital importance since it bears the advanced science and technology. This paper is a report of Research of Shale Gas Reservoir Prediction and Monitoring Method Based on Seismic Attributes.Formation pressure,as a control factor of rich shale, provides the reference for comprehensive evaluation of shale gas distribution, migration and accumulation. The development of shale gas is the trend of the future. This paper is based on the author's real translation practice. The author encountered some difficulties during translation, such as translation of terminologies and translation of different types of sentences.Based on careful analyses of the source text and under guidance of Functional Equivalence Theory, the author adopted some translation strategies and techniques, like studying of parallel texts, splitting long sentences, addition of words, conversion of part of speech and adjustment of word order, and solved the problems she encountered in translation.Although the author's translation met the client's requirement,it is far from perfect and it leaves much room for improvement. The author does benefit a lot from this translation practice and she raises some suggestions based on the translation practice, hoping they can be of some help to MTI students in their future translation of geology texts.
