The Change Of Subsistence In A Pastoralism Village: A Case Study Of Qinghe County In Xinjiang

The study is mainly related to the livelihood change of the past few decades in Agash-oobo nomadic village, which is located in Qinghe County in Altay Region Xinjiang. And such change is a part of the modernization process and social-cultural change steppes. This research reveals the changes of nomadic industry, development of the agriculture,disappearance of some traditional forms of livelihood and emergence of some new forms of livelihood. In this research, these Changes will be described and explained and the process, reasons for changes will be analyzed.The study can mainly be divided into three parts. The first part is the introduction, including the background and significance, literature review, the contents of the research, research methods, objects and the introduction of the field work. Above information is essential in understanding the livelihood changes. From the second chapter to the fourth chapter is the second part, to describe and analyze nomadic industry, agricultural industry, disappeared livelihood and emergence of new ways of livelihood in sequence. The main form and the process of change, and its reasons for the changes will be explained. The third part is the conclusion, to sum up and analyze the driving force, as well as the trend of livelihood changes in nomadic regions.The research shows that livelihood change is part of the contemporary pastoral life, which reflects the effect of modernization on herdsmen’s lives. On the process of the livelihood change, government,adjustments of policy and rules have been playing an important role.Actually, there is a huge change in herdsmen’s needs these days, and this is the key point in livelihood change in pastoral villages. There has been an upward trend in this field that the importance of agriculture than pastorals. Marketing is also playing an important part in recent decades.For one thing, marketing convinces human beings in whatever they want in daily lives. For another thing, in this way, there are more opportunities to make living in other form, emerging the appearance of new forms. In this whole process, herdsmen are eager to adapt to the change. We can understand that what brings about the change is combination of many reasons not a single one reason. Livelihood change is moving process,and it keeps changing.
