The problem of the global energy crisis and environmental pollution is becoming more and more serious in modern times. Humanbeing seek for the sustainable development of economy, energy and environment constantly in a coordinated way to solve the problem. Under this background, the nuclear power is a kind of economical and clean energy. It is environmentally friendly, favored by many countries.In this paper, we do in-depth research and analysis on nuclear power participated in power grid peak shaving from the necessity and possibility aspects. We first analyzed the domestic demand for power grid peak shaving and present work about the current measures of power grid peak shaving from both at home and abroad; the studies have shown that with the development of nuclear power, the power grid is increasingly complicated, nuclear power participated in power grid peak shaving is an essential means for solve the power grid peak shaving problem in the future. Mainly from the perspective of economy, the paper researched economic benefits of nuclear power units participated in power grid peak shaving program. Meanwhile, we also analyzed the domestic and foreign nuclear power units participated in peak shaving by different methods and forms, which laid the theoretical foundation of analyzing the nuclear power units participating in power grid peak shaving.We pay more attentions on nuclear plants’operation modes, equipment efficiency as well as its participation in the economic benefits of ancillary services. From these respects, the external effects and the qualitative analysis.of nuclear power units participate in peak shaving are strictly studied. However, shutting down on nuclear power unit is not frequently allowed, so it is improtant to cooperate the a variety of quick-responsed energy such as hydroelectric power. In order to optimize the load schedule,this chapter also established the optimization model of peak shaving. To solve the model, we innovatively used the fireworks optimization algorithm for searching for the solution space in good breadth and depth. It also guaranteed the global optimality.The economic analysis model is established on the basis of its participation in power grid peak shaving. Besides, we proposed the nuclear power unit production function. The condition constraints are established. The peak shaving capability analysis as well as the balance calculation are proposed in this paper. We summed up the specific process of effective nuclear power plants to implement power grid peak shaving.The simulation calculations have been carried in actual power grid. Firstly, we did calculation and analysis on the capability of power grid peak shaving after the conventional load balance calculation.The simulation results showed that the situation of power grid peak shaving is quite grim, which is subjected to the influence of hydro turbine. And when thermal power unit load rate is low, the variable cost gets higher. In this paper, we can draw the conclusion that the nuclear power units are appropriate to participate in power grid peak shaving in the off-peak times along with other conventional units,which has reduced the effective cost of power network.
