Empirical Research On The Evolution Of Consumption Structure Of The Urban Residents In Hubei Province

In recent years, the development of consumption structure is drawing more and more attention from the government at all levels. The consumption structure reflects the type and quantity of consumer goods and services of residents, and embodies the consumption level and quality of residents. Studying consumption structure,exploring the issues existing in consumption structure, pointing out the factors that influence consumption structure, proposing some feasible suggestions that can make consumption structure rational, and revealing the development tendency of consumption structure, play an important role in improving living standard and quality of residents and promoting the development of economy in our country.In view of this, we use the knowledge of related subjects of econometric, mathematics, Macro and Micro Economics and statistics to analyze consumption structure of urban residents in Hubei province to a point. During the research,we apply comparative approach,structure analysis and the methods of econometrics, and use ELES model and model of Chow test, using the relative theories about residents’ consumption to reveal the law of evolution of urban residents from a different perspective.Besides we find out several main affecting factors and the problems in consumption structure.At the same time, we analyze the trend of the change of consumption structure of urban residents in Hubei province in future.Finally, we put forward the feasible suggestion on optimizing consumption structure aiming at these problems.The innovation points of this paper are that firstly describes the evolution process of consumption structure of urban residents by four stages, and secondly using Chow test compare the change of consumption structure before and after the Eight rules. Besides the deficiency of this paper is that data collection about consumption structure of urban residents in Hubei province is not complete.The paper is divided into six parts in total.The first part is to declare the significance and the background of this topic, review the research achievement at home and abroad synthetically and introduce the main content as well as text structure.The second part is to illustrate the relevant concepts about consumption structure including the meaning and classification of consumption structure, the prime factors influencing consumption structure and development tendency of consumption structure.The third part is to review and evaluate the dynamic changing process of consumption structure four times from the reform and opening up before to three decades of reform and opening up.Besides,we analyze the consumption structure of urban residents in Hubei province from 1998 to 2013 by ELES model dynamically. Starting with basic consumption demand, marginal propensity to consume and income elasticity of demand, we master the evolution direction and rule of the consumption structure of urban residents.The forth part is to outline the main factors affecting the basic consumption structure of urban residents from three aspects including disposable income,income inequality of urban residents and local expenditures on social security.The fifth part is analyzing the trend of changes of the consumption structure of urban residents in the future.Besides we study how the guiding functions including policy, incomes and science and technology act on the evolution of consumption structure.The sixth part is to point out some problems existing in consumption structure and direct at the problems existing in consumption structure of urban residents as well as combining with the standard of modern economic society, then put forward to some reasonable proposals to optimize the consumption structure of urban residents in Hubei province.
