Since the reform and opening up, China has become the second largest economic entity in the world. But with the disappearance of labor dividends, Chinese enterprises need to restructure and upgrade by creativity, which can improve enterprises’added value. In fact, only human resource have the ability to create, so it is very important for enterprise to retain their employees who have high engagement. However, Gallup did a survey about the employee engagement and found Chinese employee was the lowest in the world, the proportion of it is only 6%. Enterprises call for their employees to be engaged, but what can they do for it? In this paper, we discussed the effect of developmental human resource management on employee engagement and explore the internal mechanism.Firstly, based on the literature review and theoretical analysis, this paper introduced the connotation and measurement methods of the four variables, including developmental human resource management, employee engagement, employability and vocational identity. Secondly, in the light of low employee engagement and based on the theories of social exchange, social recognition and job resource demands, this paper constructed the hypothetical model followed the information logic of "stimulation-aware-internalization-reaction". Again, with the help of 5 science and technology enterprises, this paper had data to test the hypotheses by SPSS and lisrel. This paper found that: ①Developmental human resource management has a positive impact on employee engagement;②Developmental human resource management has a positive impact on employability; ③Employability is a mediator between developmental human resource management and employee engagement; ④Developmental human resource management has a positive impact on the vocational identity; ⑤Vocational identity is a mediator between the developmental human resource management and employee engagement. Finally, according to the conclusions, this paper put forward some opinions and suggestions for management practices.
