Development Of Sanhua Plum Industry In Weng Yuan County

Guangdong Province is the south rim of distribution area of Sanhua plum. Thanks to its favorable natural conditions and stable economic benefits of Sanhua plum industry, Guangdong has become a main producing unit of Sanhua plum in China. Wengyuan County, located in northern Guangdong and bordering on the Pearl River Delta, covers a land area of 222,000 hm2. Featuring mountainous region and hilly land, Wengyuan boasts diverse ecological environment, abundant fruit tree resource, and convenient transportation. With about 500 years of history and excellent quality in Sanhua plum cultivation, Wengyuan enjoys unique regional advantages on ecology, seasons and location to develop the Sanhua plum industry. For better development of such industry in Wengyuan, this thesis combines with the reality of Wengyuan, analyzes the current situation and existing problems of the development of Sanhua plum industry in Wengyuan with the objective of detecting and resolving problems, and puts forward relevant countermeasures and suggestions by drawing upon advanced technologies and experience at home and abroad.This thesis summarizes the development situation and relevant research of Sanhua plum industry at home and abroad, analyzes current development of Sanhua plum in Wengyuan, and detects the existing problems in it, including the imperfect governmental service system, backward agricultural infrastructure, incomplete insurance system for agricultural disasters, orchardists’ weak consciousness, limited role of the cooperative, and low added value of fruit products. By means of profoundly researching and analyzing, accurately identifying roots of those problems, learning from advanced experiences at home and abroad, and combining with the reality of Wengyuan, this thesis comes up with such countermeasures as intensifying guidance and support of the government, perfecting infrastructure construction, completing the agricultural insurance service system, raising orchardists’ consciousness, giving full play to the Sanhua Plum Cooperative, and improving comprehensive competitiveness of products, in an effort to complete the development system of Sanhua plum industry, realize plantation through technologies as well as scientific planning and management, and increase orchardists’ income. Furthermore, this research aims to provide references to propel the sustainable development of Sanhua plum industry in Wengyuan,northern Guangdong and even similar areas across the country.Research methods that this work adopts are literature consulting and inductive analysis, field interview and survey research, and data analysis and quantitative analysis. Through combining some of the methods above, this thesis analyzes the problem in the development of Sanhua plum industry in Wengyuan in a more comprehensive, systemic and profound way, and puts forward corresponding countermeasures and suggestions, so as to provide academic and theoretical references for that industrial development. This will help farmers in mountain areas increase income, inject new impetus to the development of other industries in mountain areas, facilitate rural areas to move towards modernization, promote farmer’s life to step toward a well-off level, and effectively boost the economic and social growth of Wengyuan and even the northern Guangdong Province.
