Along with the acceleration of the integration process of global economy, especially under the current circumstance of global economic crisis, the stability, competitiveness and sustainability of a supply chain appears more and more important to any of the enterprises herein. It must be taken into account and put into practice by the leading player of each supply chain how to maintain the sustainable development of the supply chain. As a leading enterprise in China’s automobile industry, Shanghai General Motors has deeply felt the significance and function of building up the green supply chain to its sustainable development, and took the lead in beginning the pilot study in supply chain in2007, which was implemented successfully more than200suppliers, and further expansion will be made to all the suppliers in the future, thus to make the whole supply chain benefited, and achieve Shanghai GM’s commitment of green environmental protection. The main content of this paper is a structured methodology specially developed and designed with respect to Shanghai GM’s green supply chain project combine with actual case, wherein methodologies such as clean production auditing, energy audit, PMIF (Enterprise Performance Assessment, Improvement and Financing Plan) and energy efficiency benchmark management etc., are integrated, which can guide and help the suppliers to constantly drive energy-saving and decrease in emission by a set of concise procedures, complemented with many practical methods, and assist Shanghai GM in building up a green supply chain with sustainable improvement.
