The consumption behavior of migrant workers is not only an important dimension in the process of urbanization, but also an important part that needs attention in consumer market. Due to the particularity migrant workers identities, household consumption of migrant workers is different from both urban households and rural households. Study on the consumption of rural migrant families is significant in expanding domestic demand, and of great significance for the promotion of urbanization. Based on existed studies at home and abroad, this study uses998rural migrant families sample data and analyzes the consumption level, structure and affecting factors of rural migrant families’in their working places.Firstly, this paper uses descriptive statistical method to make general description of the current consumption situation of rural migrant families from the aspects of consumption structure, consumption level, consumption patterns and consumption concept. Secondly, based on ELES model, this paper analyzes the consumption propensity of rural migrant families using cross-sectional data analysis, and then explores the demand income elasticity and the price elasticity. Thirdly, we used multivariate linear model to analyze variables that affect consumption behavior of rural migrant families from the aspects of income, family features, renting of house, job turnover and endowment insurance. Finally, based on the research conclusion, we put forward relevant enlightenment to promote the consumption level of rural migrant families.Our research results show that:Firstly, the level of urban consumption for rural migrant families is still relatively low, but a little higher than that of rural households. Rural migrant families spend more than rural households in the aspects of food, clothing, housing, transportation and communication. Secondly, the consumption structure of the rural migrant families is not reasonable, survival consumption is still dominants, and luxurious consumption and pretentious consumption are still lag behind. But the consumption behaviors of the rural migrant families shows some characteristics of urban consumption. Some rural migrant families have started to purchase online and ahead of consumption have emerged. Thirdly, From the respective of different family groups, consumption behaviors of the rural migrant families have some differences. The luxurious consumption and pretentious consumption of rural migrant families with high income is higher than the families with low income. The rural migrant families with high educational level spend more than the families with low educational level. The entertainment expenditure of the rural migrant families that engages in the service industry is higher than other rural migrant families. Incomes, cultural level, industry, job, children status and renting of house factors all have significant impacts on the overall consumption expenditures of rural migrant families.
