In this paper, the performance appraisal practice will be analyzed, with this kind of practice for technical support staff in W enterprise as the background, through the discussion of the relative theories and methods of performance appraisal. The paper will analyze the current situation of performance appraisal and will also point out the possible problems, and will then put forward the corresponding optimization measures and schemes. The suggested measures are mainly for the non-quantitative work done by technical support staff and make use of STAR principle in critical incident method, which specializes in processing records and finishing for specific events. Through this kind of way, it is more objective to retain the technical support staff’s own way of dealing with problems and their own thinking about them. It can also let the supervisor better know and understand staff’s work attitude and work ability. Through such an objective performance appraisal, we could manage and control the staff’s processing and result. That will also be fairer and more comprehensive to assess the performance of staff in the work of technical support. In the implementation process of performance appraisal, what should be paid attention to are the integrity of the whole process and employee’s participation?Relative training or improvement plan can be made with regard to the exposed problems in the performance evaluation so as to achieve one of its purposes, namely improving performance, which is actually one of the purposes of the performance evaluation. In addition, reward and incentive measures are suggested as complement, making performance evaluation really motivate staff and thus improving the overall performance of the enterprise.
