Different level managers of the hotel are playing different roles in the daily operations of its management, but the middle managers are the key to implement the hotel’s decision- making, target, the implementation of strategic tasks and communication between basic management and the high- level decision- making work. The middle managers are the backbone of the international chain hotel as they are the main workers in the daily management. The actual results of hotel management policies and setting goals are restricted by the core ability of middle managers to a great extent. So middle managers are becoming the focus research targets of the hotel human resources management. Core competence theory provides a new way for personnel training and qualified hotel staff by building and application of middle management model. The hotel staff can get better working environment and effective training so as to improve themselves in every aspect in the core competence training.This dissertation aims to build core competence model for middle managers in international chain hotel, and make a deeply discussion about its relevant factors. It includes five factors in building middle managers core competence model:professional ability, cognitive ability, interpersonal skills, work management ability, team cooperation ability. "Professional ability" packs four core competence factors, namely, moral quality, service consciousness, service skills and manners. "Cognitive ability" includes learning ability, innovation ability, self management and leadership. "Interpersonal skills" includes interpersonal and cross-cultural communication skills, conflict processing subordinates, care and consideration. "Work management ability" includes planning and organization ability, analysis and decision- making ability, inter-departmental coordination and cooperation, crisis management. "Team cooperation ability" includes training supervision skills, authorization, team building skills and motivation skills.The data collected from questionnaire is analyzed by the correlation analysis between SPSS18.0, mainly adopting principal component analysis, single factor variance analysis, data comparison research method, etc. The main research conclusion is :male middle managers are stronger than female in work management ability and the team management ability; the elder middle managers are much better in terms of interpersonal communication; education background heavily influence employees’ professional ability; different post levels exist great different understanding in team management for middle managers.The concept of core competence for middle managers in international chain hotel is dynamic which can change and adjust along with the development of the era and the environment. The reflection and effect factors of the core ability are different in different ear. Through empirical analysis, this dissertation makes the model more accord with objective requirements for international chain hotel middle managers core ability; improving the applicability of the model. In building international chain hotel middle manager core competence model, questionnaire survey, Q uestionnaire on International Chain Hotel Middle Managers Core Competence Indicators, is the main research method of this study which is formed by combining multiple research methods to detect the composition of the core competence with the existing research results.
