| The theory of New Economic Geography is proposed by Paul Krugman, and its keypoint is that using the assumption of economies of scale, increasing returns and imperfectcompetition instead of the assumption of traditional diminishing returns and imperfectcompetition. Therefore, the theory is a great challenge to the theory of traditional westerneconomic geography. The core point of spatial agglomeration of New Economic Geographyis increasing returns, path dependence and spatial agglomeration, and the research ofspecialization and diversification concentrates on the research of agglomeration. Althoughthere are many empirical studies on the development of industrial agglomeration, yet thepaper tries to further enrich the perspective of industrial agglomeration development throughthe perspective of specialization and diversification.Based on the previous studies, the paper constructs the interaction framework ofspecialization and diversification effect on labor productivity, and makes an empiricalresearch by using the spatial econometric methods and the panel data of21area ofGuangdong province during2007-2012.The research shows that, First, there are spatial dependence and spatial heterogeneitybetween Guangdong Province labor productivity, and the spatial econometric model of theSEM model and GWR model is more suitable for the research of external relations onregional economic development.Second, specialized externalities and the employment density have positive effects onlabor productivity, and the extent of the specialized externalities on the labor productivitywill be influenced by the industrial properties and local district. Also, the impact of thespecialization externalities of primary industry and tertiary industry on labor productivity ishigher than the second industry. The specialization of the secondary industry and the thirdindustry in Pearl River Delta have significant effects on labor productivity, while thespecialization of the tertiary industry in east wing, west wing and mountain areas ofGuangdong province is beneficial to the labor productivity.Third, the level of regional industrial diversification effect on labor productivity is notsignificant. This is probably because there is a non-linear relationship between the degree of diversification and industrial growth.Fourth, the effect of the Pearl River Delta city scale on the regional labor productivity isnot obvious, while the effects of city size of east wing, West Wing and mountain area on theregional labor productivity is positive. |
