According to the national "going out" strategy requirement, after years ofconstruction contractors’ active overseas expansion, they have made remarkableachievements. In recent years, the number of companies involved in the internationalmarket bidding or contracts can be signed by both the rapid ascension, continuedexpansion of business scale and constantly improve the technology content,significantly improved the international competitiveness, emergence of a number ofoutstanding multinational corporations. Changes in international competition of marketenvironment, opportunities and challenges, the international engineering contractorsmust be more cautious to expand overseas business, see the situation, trying to makethemselves more steadily to take g root in the international market. However, the "goingout" easy,"firm" is more difficult, how to maintain and nurture their own uniquecompetitive advantage is particularly important.This paper first describes the background, the development of internationalcontractors and problems, puts forward the cultivating and improving the necessity ofbuilding contractors international core competitiveness. The paper analyzes the currentconstruction enterprises of our country on the whole that have entered the top225international contractors in terms of turnover, market areas and business areas, etc., andcompared with the corresponding aspects of top international contractors, analyzedChina’s international engineering contractor competition advantages and the mainexisting problems. Then, it analyzes theoretically the competitiveness of internationalengineering contractors through literature reviews. Use literature research and casestudies to find out the elements of the core competitiveness, then to sort and classify ofthe elements t and use the explanation structure model to carry out on the interactionsbetween each factor hierarchy, in order to cultivate and promote the competitiveness ofthe construction contractors and provide the basis. Finally, through the international topcontractor’s successful development path, combining the theory of enterprise corecompetence elements and contractors gaps in our country, put forward suggestions andcountermeasures to promote China’s building contractors international competitiveness.
