China is a multi-ethnic country, 56 ethnic groups in the country with 55 ethnic minorities, most of the ethnic minority population living in remote, backward border area. Because of the natural geographical environment is different, its politics, economy, culture, population structure and other elements are not the same. Media environment and audience attributes corresponding differences and non-minority areas. For China’s frontier minority areas, the development of mass media and areas for development are mutually reinforcing relationship. The development and popularization of the mass media is an important link to promote the frontier minority areas of political, economic, cultural development, the audience is the main body of communication activities in the part, is the media terminal information received, play a decisive role in the dissemination of the minority areas, the audience to a correct understanding and reasonable use and media will cause the mass media has the further development of reform. In recent years, the rapid development of China’s mass media, then, minority areas of the media has a certain development, media information needs of the audience in the minority areas are changing. Therefore, the audience media information demand, this paper focuses on the frontier minority areas.This paper mainly studies the media information demand of Inner Mongolia Keyouzhong Banner Pastoral audience. First of all in the pastoral areas selected 137 audience as samples, and simple statistics of its attributes; then the pastoral audiences’ media ownership, situation, contact media evaluation use, media information content preferences, media information content are described in detail, the analysis of the media demand behavior in the audience; then by using statistical method analysis of the factors affecting the audience information needs of minority area; the information receiving subject, media, development suggestion of frontier minority media in three aspects of the main information dissemination.
