Power Line Communication(PLC) technology utilizes power lines as a communication medium, and the wide distribution of power lines and the advantage without extra building cost make the technology attract wide attention. The smart grid scheme has been implemented throughout the country, the performance of power line carrier communication will directly affect the smooth progress of the plan. However, because the power line is a dedicated transport AC line, not for the signal transmission, so the communication performance is not ideal. Currently, basic research on power line carrier communication has already achieved a lot,such as the characteristic of impedance, signal attenuation and channel modeling. But to the quality of service(Qo S) of power line carrier network,it has not yet attracted much attention.Quality of Service(Qo S) technology is an integrated technology to ensure the reliability and real-time of the network. When the size of the network is small, each node in the network can get barrier-free communication benefited from the sufficient bandwidth. As the network size increases, the resources cannot meet the communication needs of each node of the network, then overload or congestion of the network will occur inevitably. Qo S technology is exactly used to solve this kind of network problem. In the case of network congestion, QoS technology can guarantee timely and accurate transmission of the important business, ensuring efficient operation of the network.Firstly, Qo S techniques of the traditional network are studied, three classic Qo S service models consisting of best-effort service model, the integrated service model, differentiated service model are analyzed. We summarize several key indicators of Qo S, and study the QoS technology of the typical wireless network from all the level of the network. Secondly, we give a QoS architecture of the power line carrier network combining the the AMI system in order to provide a reference for the systematic study of the PLC network Qo S. Then we propose a kind of MAC protocol called MMAC-Qo S with priority control mechanism considered that IEEE802.15.4 cannot meet the needs of different business issues of the power line carrier network, and give its simulation. Simulation results show that the improved MAC protocol is superior to CSMA / CA in IEEE802.15.4 MAC protocol in broadcast time-consuming, network throughput and transmission delay, can better ensure the timely and reliable transfer of vital services to meet the Qo S requirements of PLC network. Finally, MMAC-Qo S protocol on the test platform. Finally, give an application examples about MMAC-Qo S protocol.
