At present, the power of economic rise in China is more and more strong, continuing to shorten the gap between urban and rural development, exacerbate many contradictions and intertwine traditional and non-traditional security factors in the process of social transition. As a result, different kinds of natural disasters, food safety, accidents and other major public emergencies happen one after another. Moreover, with the deepening of globalization, incidents occurring in other countries will spread into China. In this background, the important role of media is self-evident. The dissemination of information from media is connected with public opinions, government’s decision-making, the handling process of the events, social stability and so on in public domain, showing a strong influence.However, due to a number of factors, the dissemination of media information about major public emergencies sometimes deviate from the normal, orderly and standardized track and reflect many problems, such as "lag releasing", "selective reporting", "simply pandering to the low tastes of audience", etc; The inappropriate media information intensifies the crisis and exacerbates social loss; With the development of Internet technology, the eco-system is expanded, online rumors and irrational remarks are flooding, increasing the difficulties of information management and media’s guiding of public opinion. These cause a negative impact on media themselves, public, government and society. Therefore, to discuss the communication management of media information about major public emergencies has important theoretical and practical significance.The research will be divided into three parts:The first part will discuss the concepts and characteristic of major public emergencies and the dissemination of media information after reading literatures and laws home and abroad; summarize the types and structure of media information; emphasize the reason why should strengthen the communication management of media information about major public emergencies from the standpoints of the citizens’ rights to know, the crisis image of government, and social stability and development.The second part will list several typical cases and elucidate the current conditions of media’s reports on major public emergencies, then will analyze the reasons of the problems. Due to constraints of traditional thinking and existing properties, media’s initiative is not strong and follow-up reports are lacking; Due to the increased competitive pressure in media’s market, media deliberately use selective and sensational reports in order to obtain more benefits; Due the approaching of eye’s economy attention era, media blindly scoop and simply pander to the low tastes of audience in order to win more attention; Due to the expansion of the information ecosystem, the challenges of conveying effective information from media themselves and guiding public opinion increase.The third part will put forward some relevant countermeasures and suggestions to solve the series of problems, including: shaping the media " quasi personality" image; building media information dissemination system; playing the role of industry associations and third-party organizations; strengthening government’s function and rules of laws in order to continuously improve the dissemination of media information about major public emergencies becoming more standardized, orderly and legal.
