In recent years, embedded technology and Ethernet transmission technology and video processing technology have got continuous development. The video acquisition and processing system based on and designed by the embedded technology is getting more and more attention. Compared with the traditional video acquisition and processing system based on computer, the embedded video acquisition and processing system has the characteristics of small volume, low power consumption and low cost. Thus, video acquisition and processing system based on embedded technology is more and more widely used in many fields, such as public transportation, mobile terminals, industrial products detection, video surveillance and so on. For the embedded image acquisition and transmission system, it is just through the embedded processor, expanses out image sensor and transmission module and some related peripherals and so on,realizes image data acquisition, display, processing, storage and transmission functions and so on.According to the current developing trend of the image acquisition system, this paper designed an embedded image acquisition system based on ARM chip. The system used ST (Italian method of semiconductor) Company production based on the Cortex-M4 architecture of the ARM chip STM32F407 as a micro controller to complete the data processing function; With the CMOS image sensor OV2640 produced by OV (OmniVision) company as an image acquisition module, its pixels up to 200W, ensuring the quality of the image; Data transmission module select Ethernet for transmission. The collected images could be sent to PC for display and storage; at the same time, it designed an SD card module to store image data, the image was mainly stored in the BMP and JPEG image data format. The micro controller STM32F407 was connected to the OV2640 via a digital camera interface (DCMI), and the SCCB bus was used to control the OV2640 to complete its initialization. By transplanting LwIP protocol as embedded Ethernet protocol stack, combined with Ethernet hardware interface, the system can achieve the function of Ethernet transmission. Through the SDIO interface Micro controller used FATFS file system to achieve reading and writing function from SD card.This paper expounded the whole system from the current situation of the development of embedded system, overall architecture of the system, key chip selection, related hardware circuit design and software design of the system and other aspects. Finally, through the test, the system realized the image acquisition, display, storage and transmission functions.
