The Analysis And Design Of Experience API Based Learning Management System

Learning management systems are web applications for supervising e-learning process. It is a common approach of online education that higher education and further education institutions use to deliver online courses for e-learners. E-learning standards define the high level principles for organizing learning resources and developing e-learning applications. Only Learning Management Systems supporting e-learning standards can accomplish interoperability between applications and enable interchange and reuse of learning content. As far as SCORM and other most influential standards were concerned, these standards have already done a great job, and save a lot of time and money for those who work in online education industries. But, as the time changed and the research continues, these standards gradually show some weakness, and lots of new considerations, which beyond them, must be made. As a result, Advanced Distributed Learning Initiative published the next-generation SCORM, which is Experience API. With Experience API, many of the problems inherent with SCORM-like standards are gone. Therefore, it is inevitable to design an Experience API-conformant learning management system.This paper gives a brief introduction to the research status and application realities of experience API at home and abroad, and summarizes the author’s work and contents of this paper. In the business analysis section, we examine why experience API can help resolve the problems faced by current e-learning community from two different angles, namely systematic adoption and social learning. In the functional analysis section, this paper applies UML approach to explore every functionalities of our system and survey the use case specification. In the system design section, we describe the design of some functional modules and structure the database schema based on the entity relationship diagram. At the last section of this paper, we conclude our work in this research, and give our prospects for further work.The system, detailed in this paper, is essential to the implementation of open education and life-long education in Yunnan Open University, as well as an exploration of achieving the overall goal to establish the lifelong learning overpass. With the adoption of Experience API, the scalability of the system can be enhanced, which fulfills the current teaching practice of academic qualifications in Yunnan Open University and provides better services for non-degree qualifications.
