With the extensive application of image processing technology in the fields of military and civil applications, the demand of image processing system is increasing, and requirements of image processing system’s performances are more and more strict. The traditional single channel image processing system can not achieve the monitoring of large scenes because of the limited vision. Besides, the single video source exposes the problem that cannot provide more effective feature information under the condition of low illumination, complex environment and object occlusion. In view of these problems, this thesis studied the dual channel image processing system, and completed the design and realization of it. The main researches of this thesis are as follows.Firstly, the schematic design and PCB design of the dual channel image information processing system are completed. The system fully considers possible requirements of video encoding/decoding and video processing algorithm during the hardware design, and puts forward the main technical indicators. The system adopts the VPX bus structure which has high speed data transmission ability, and uses double channel design which is compatible with visible light and infrared video source to solve the single video source problem. In order to meet the requirement of real-time image processing, the system adopts FPGA + DSP architecture and uses two pieces of dual port RAM to construct video transmission path, thus avoid the conflict of reading and writing in data transmission and improve the efficiency of data transmission. In addition, finish the device selection and circuit design according to the scheme design and index requirements.Secondly, the software design and implementation of the system are completed. According to the format information of video data and requirements of transmission, completed the processing flow design of video data. The software system is divided into 6 parts which including I2 C, video capture, video transmission, video display, processing algorithms and PTZ control according to the system function. Complete the software design and programming and realize the real-time display processing of video data. Meanwhile, study the target continuous tracking problem in the dual channel by extracting the information of Harris corner and establishing the split line of vision which archive target handoff continuous tracking in the dual channel.Finally, the hardware platform of the dual channel image information processing system is built. Completed the hardware circuit test and software function verification of the dual channel image information processing system. What’s more, complete the hardware implementation of target tracking algorithm and target continuous tracking algorithm. And the real-time tracking of moving target on sand table is achieved by controlling the camera rotation through PTZ.
