Traveling wave tube is an important device of the microwave signal amplification. With the rapid development of ECM, the demand of reliability, volume, mobility and life of the military equipment is higher and higher. Thus, it puts forward higher requirements on travelling wave tube. Electron gun is an important structure of travelling wave tube, which has an important influence on the performance of the TWT. Grid-controlled electron gun by adding a very small voltage on the grid to control the emission and cut-off of electron. It has a high significance in the actual equipment. So, it has been widely used in the TWT.The main contents of this paper are as follows:1. The brief analysis of the design about the electron gun has made. Then, design an electron gun using the MTSS simulation software.2. The design of grid-controlled gun has analyzed. From the theoretical formula method to the design of grid has given. And mainly studied the spokes controlled grid model. The amplification coefficient(c0u)of the grid has studied. Through the establishment of controlled grid model to study the controlled grid. The number of mesh each layer grid and the width of the silk has studied which effects on the amplification coefficient, and do theoretical analysis, provide theoretical basis for the design of controlled grid. This article grid-controlled guns design process is as follows: the user giving the design index, then design basis no grid electron gun. According to user index and structural parameters of the gun, can more accurately get the position of controlled grid. Then, select the appropriate controlled grid layers, can get the width, number of mesh each layer and each layer of controlled grid its horns. Using MTSS study the effect of control grid structure change on the electron gun. And optimize it, get the grid-controlled electron gun which reaches the index of user. This section presents a quick design method which meets the requirements of controlled grid, improves the design efficiency of grid-controlled gun.3. Error analysis has done for the grid-controlled gun. First, analyses the calculation error when calculating the controlled grid structure, and the impact of the error and made detailed analysis, for when designing controlled grid should be how to modify the effects of calculation error direction are pointed out. Secondly, mainly is the study of radius of shadow grid scale and the shadow of the width of the shadow grid effect on the intercepted current. Finally, the controlled grid processing error are analyzed, and analyze its influence to intercept current.
