With the rapid development of information era, the progress of radar technology is growing fast. More and more radar technologies are widely used in many different occasions, especially in industrial manufacture. The instrumentation radar which transmits FMCW signal plays an irreplaceable role in the field of industrial measurement. And it can work well in harsh environment, which is the unique superiority compared with the traditional measurement methods. However, like other radars, the precision instrumentation radar is also affected by noise which lead to some measuring errors. Also, there are some inherent flaws in the algorithm of DSP. This thesis, aiming to solve the above problems, analyses the advantages and disadvantages of traditional instrumentation radar’s algorithms and lucubrate the techniques of frequency and distance measurement.The main contends&research methods are summarized as follow:1 The instrumentation radar is introduced briefly in a block diagram and the relation between the frequency and distance is derived strictly by analyzing the radar signals.After that, a variety of factors which influence the measurement accuracy are discussed.2 In the paper,we take a quick look back at the theory of the interpolation algorithmand energy centrobaric correcting algorithm.The interpolation algorithm does not perform well when the frequency deviation is small.On the contrary, the Energy centro-baric algorithm has a poor performance only when the frequency deviation is large.By considering the advantages and disadvantages of traditional algorithms, an improved classification algorithm based on frequency deviation factor is proposed to overcome the drawbacks of traditional algorithms. Numerical simulations show that the proposed algorithm achieves good measurement precision under arbitrary frequency deviation, which verifies the practicability, reliability and superiority of the algorithm.3 In the third part,the basic principles and characteristics of ap FFT are discussed.And based on all the above ideas,the paper have proposed three algorithms : The frequency measurement algorithm based on traditional FFT and all phase FFT,The estimation and correction algorithm based on all phase FFT and The classification algorithm of frequency deviation based on the phase’s difference of all phase FFT.All those algorithms perform well in precision and stability,and can also provide a measurement under the low SNR environment and be easily implemented in hardware.4 The superiority of the frequency deviation classification algorithm based on phase’s difference of all phase FFT is proved by making good use of the software radio platform MFSS6842 for FPGA implementation. To make a summary, the implementation methods and techniques of various hardware modules are analyzed and summarized to verify the reliability of algorithm.
