Sports technology plays a very important role in competitive sports and school sports and mass sports. Sports science reports is the effective means of spreading sports science and technology information. The People’s Daily, as China’s communist party newspaper, has a certain influence and authority both in our country and in the world. Its sports technology reports can not only spread our country sports science and technology information, but also affect people’s perception of sports science and technology.Using the literature material method, content analysis method, expert interview method, this paper made a research on the sports science research of People’s Daily report, since the reform and opening.Based on the Long-term outline guidance of sports science research (2011-2020), which mentioned 24 subjects and priority research on the basis of the three areas, this paper summarized the sports technology report as four areas:the field of improve the national physical fitness, improve the competitive level, promote the development of sports industry and the other fields. Summarized 17 themes of sports technology as the operational definition, and this paper study on the 981 reports choose by sampling from the December of 1979 to the December of 2014.This paper analyses each stage in four dimensions:the historical background, the number of reports, domains and themes. It also summarizes different characteristics of the reports in different stages.The results of the study:the reports of People’s Daily’s sports technology can be divided into four stages since the reform and opening up:In the first stage, infancy stage(1978-1989), Sports Science reports began to be taken seriously, but it’s still a small amount. Most of the reports are not scientific enough. In the second stage, the developing stage (1990-1996), the number of Sports Science reports began to increase, but the report is still unscientific. In the third stage, the peak stage, (1997-2008), the number of Sports Science reports is on the peak, the scientific quality is greatly enhanced. The media function of the People’s Daily is gradually improved. In the fourth stage, the stationary stage (2009-2014), the number of Sports Science reports are dropped. But the science and innovation of the reports have been enhanced. The fields of the reports also show periodic changes. The field of improving the competitive level is declining and the field of enhance the physical areas and the promotion of the development of sports industry is rising. Reported topics at different stages in four areas, the report focus on the scientific reports, it is also changed in deferent stages.The sport science reports of the People’s Daily plays an important role in the history. But it still has some problems. The problems of the reports are like these:1. The amount of the reports is less.2. The reports are lagging.3. The reports lack a overall planning.4. Report is not scientific enough.5. The media functions of the paper are incomplete. The reasons which lead the problems are as follows:1. The scientific literacy of the Journalists is lacked.2. They did not pay enough attention to sports technology report.3. The lack of the Sports scientific researcher’s words.4. The limits of Sports science and technology study.Suggestions:1.
