At present among the methods of using solar energy, photovoltaic power generation is one of the most effective and widely way. Based on the working principle of solar cells, solar cell output characteristics, output power and the maximum working point will change with illumination intensity, temperature and other natural conditions;because of the low transfer efficiency of solar cells, the research on the method of tracking solar cell maximum power point has become a hot issue. To sum up, it has a important practical significance to study on the automatic tracking solar power system based on image processing method and corresponding supporting devices.Firstly, this paper makes a simple discussion and analysis of the way that solar photovoltaic system tracking and the fundamental methods of image capturing and image pre-processing; discusses the core design idea of the picture processing technology on the photovoltaic counter electrode detailedly, and designs the structure of the bracket of the automatic tracking device and image capture system; then we use MATLAB to gray image pixel statistics and binaryzation, and compared to the calculation of the shadow, we make sure the photovoltaic counter elected rotate or not, and transfer the instruction into the controller. Finally, it comes up to a overall design scheme of the control system, and developed a microcontroller system based on STM32 control module, it includes minimum system, control module,232 communication module, communication module, power supply module, display module, clock module and so on.The actual test result shows that this device can realize the automatic tracking of the solar photovoltaic system by using MATLAB image processing method, improve the utilization efficiency of the solar photovoltaic system, basically achieve the expected design goals.
