In order to solve the problem of energy crisis, to ease the pressure on the environmentand to realize sustainable development of the energy, countries around the world areexploring new energies. Because of many advantages, solar energy has became the mostvaluable new energy. However, its own shortcomings also hinder the use and developmentof solar technology. The study on sun tracking control system is of great significance toimprove the efficiency of the solar receiver, promote the promotion and application ofphotovoltaic power generation industry, and respond to China’s energy saving policies. Inthis paper, a dual-axis sun tracking control system is designed based on 32-bit ARMmicroprocessor SITM32F103VET6.The study first proposes a sun-tracking method which combines the solar trajectorytracking mode with the photoelectric tracking mode.The new method analyzes anddetermines the tracking mode under both sunny and cloudy weather conditions. Accordingto the astronomical laws of the sun, the calculation methods depending on the trajectorytracking is proposed. The study also introduces a specific tracking strategy ofphotoelectric tracking mode, and makes some improvements on the traditional structure ofthe first-level tracking sensor and tracking strategies, increases a set of coarse positioningphotoelectric sensors as well as constitutes a second-level tracking sensors, which canrealize the tracking of the sun in a wide range and judging the weather conditions.According to the function requirements of tracking control system, the design of thesystem hardware modules includes signal processing circuit module, LCD display module,the GPS information receiver module, the limit signal acquisition circuit module and theexecuting module; the design of the system software includes application program of thesun automatic tracking control system, the GPS information filtering subroutine program,realization the function of all the modules, and the drive control of the track executivemodule. In the end of this paper, an analysis of the tracking system is made, the maincauses of the error are given and some improvements is proposed as well.The experiment results show that the operation of the designed control system isstable and reliable to ensure that the solar panels keep vertical to the sun’s rays within the allowable range of error. And automatic tracking of the sun all day long is realized, theefficiency of the solar receiver is improved.
