As China continues to deepen the degree of aging,the proportion of the total population of the elderly population is increasing,the academic pay more attention to the study of the elderly.At of the end of 2015, China’s elderly population of over 60 years old has reached two hundred and twenty two million, accounting for 16.1% of the total population. The proportion of the elderly population continues to increase so that the degree of aging is deepening gradually. The aging degree in Beijing nowadays is slightly higher than the national average and occupies the forefront of other provinces. According to Beijing owns the certain degree of representation, this paper based on Beijing to study of the media image of the elderly group in accordance with the sample of the mainstream media “Beijing News”.This paper selected 804 news reports form “The Beijing News” related to older age groups from 2010 to 2015 as the sample and analyzed the sample content in three dimensions including general, diachronic and comparative, through quantitative methods to investigate older age groups’ media image features that“Beijing News”presented. The author noted that“Beijing News”had quite differences in building the image of the media and reality when it the construction of the presence of older age groups and lacked of depth of coverage and other issues. After deficiencies that caused these issues are analyzed, the author put forward recommendations and countermeasures about the positive construction of the media image of older age groups.Analysis suggested that the media image of older age groups in “Beijing news” showed three features containing the vulnerable group image that should be helped, the unfortunately vulnerable group image and the positive group image that contributed to society. According to the view of diachronic, new issues about the elderly has become a hot topic of discussion in resent years. The topics such as “helping elderly” and “women in square dance”were barely reported in 2010, but has occupied the first pages in these years. Meanwhile, the study also indicated that this kind of topic issues of media reports shifted to active guidance of public opinion gradually from the negative reports. By comparing the media image of the elderly population construction in “Beijing News” and the network public opinion, we found that the label and stigmatization of the elderly group media image were mainly formed in the network of public opinion. Although reflected in print in some aspects, it is not obvious.Through research of the “Beijing News” reported on the older age groups, I suggest that there are some deficiencies in the media image of the construction of the older age groups. The positive construction of the older groups’ media image cannot achieve without participating in the government and media.
