Research On Chinese Cataloguing Rules Improvement Based On RDA

With the continuous development of information technology and the increasing in number of literature types, the commonly used AACR2 in the international cataloguing field has exposed many problems and defects. Therefore, the RDA arose at the historic moment. As the newly emerging cataloguing rule in the international cataloguing field, RDA is a new standard designed for the digital environment,shouldering the important task, acting an important role of the international cataloguing rules and compatible with massive bibliographic data resources. It can be applied to the users of the library and other information organizations to describe and retrieve the resources. Not long after the RDA was born, it quickly became the focus of the international cataloguing field research, and brought challenges and opportunities to the development of Chinese cataloguing work. In order to apply the characteristics of the RDA which is superior to the existing Chinese cataloguing rules to the cataloguing work, it is necessary to improve Chinese cataloguing rules based on RDA.First of all, the paper introduces the basic contents of RDA, including the background, system structure, characteristics and goals. Comparing the RDA with related rules and standards, we can have a better understanding of the preparation process of RDA and find the characteristics of RDA superior to the other standards.Through consulting relevant books and related web sites at home and abroad, we are able to understand and master the usage of RDA in countries around the world, and analyze the impact of RDA on the international cataloguing field.Secondly, through literature review and data analysis, the author finds the current status and the problems of Chinese catalogue, carries out feasibility analysis on whether RDA can be used in Chinese cataloguing work, and puts forward some suggestions for Chinese cataloguing work after discussion.Thirdly, in order to improve Chinese cataloguing work, the author compares "the Chinese Literature Cataloguing Rules(second edition)" with RDA, finds out thedefects and deficiencies, and puts forward revision suggestions according to the specific conditions in our country and the RDA standard. Later, by analyzing the current Chinese cataloguing description of data format, the author puts forward certain rules to convert it into RDA, and gives some interpretations through the examples, finds there are all sorts of problems to be solved.Finally, this paper holds the optimistic attitude towards the application of the RDA in Chinese cataloguing, and expects Chinese cataloguing work can keep up with the international cataloguing work as soon as possible.
