As a kind of media, television itself has functions like spreading information, exchanging culture, educating audiences and entertainment. However, these functions begin to gather and integrate recently, becoming one function, which is TV media recreation service. The widely-known entertainment elements in TV programs make it worth watching, catering to audiences’ demands on the one hand; however, on the other hand, if entertainment elements are abused in TV programs, they will finally descend to something like snack consumed by the public. In this paper, the problem of “pan-entertainment” is systematically analyzed to explore the development direction of television programs in the future.Throughout the development of TV programs in China, one obvious phenomenon can be seen: the one-dimensional publicity oriented by ideology turns into the “audience-centered” status which takes audiences’ experience and satisfaction as the principal. During this transformation process, the largest feature embodied in information content is the prominence and reinforcement of “pan-entertainment” tendency. Based on previous studies by others, this paper firstly arranges the concepts of entertainment and pan-entertainment, and gives the author’s understanding on the main manifestation pattern of “pan-entertainment” after discussion about it. Secondly, this paper probes into the underlying reasons for “pan-entertainment” phenomenon of TV program from sociology, aesthetics, art and marketing these subjects.In addition, different from the micro-level of the view angle in previous studies for a specific program, this paper adopts the method integrating macro view and micro view. Placing the Chinese version of Running Man this typical TV program under the overall background of society, economy and culture, this paper conducts multi-angle studies on it with SWOT analytical method, to understand the influence of “pan-entertainment” on this program. With the research method integrating quantitative and qualitative analysis, the performance of “pan-entertainment” in this program is presented; and the deep reasons and the resultant influences of “pan-entertainment” are discussed with the analysis above. Furthermore, this paper also proposes the positive side of “pan-entertainment” at the same time when the negative influence is criticized, hoping to put forward some appropriate countermeasures theoretically to gives some reference for the healthy development of TV media.Finally, some suggestions to improve the “pan-entertainment” status are proposed. In order to effectively eradicate “pan-entertainment”, the author thinks that efforts should be put into several aspects: improve the innovation ability of TV programs, increase the marketization and circulation of TV programs, strengthen administrative supervision, build a multi-variant supervision system and reinforce media literacy education, which will be the focus of this research.
