Research On The Eastern Miscellany’s Attitude Toward Japan Concerning The Russo-japanese War

It has been a long time since China communicated with Japan. The relationship between China and Japan is complicated, not only teacher and student, but also metropolitan state and feudatory state, even they fought with each other. In the process of the communication, the attitude of Chinese to Japanese has changed.After the sino-Japanese war, what Chinese people saw was that Japan was a powerful country. They regarded Japanese as an enemy, and felt afraid, then the disdain faded away.Because of the “Three Country Intervention”, the Chinese people regard Russia as savior.United Russia to resist Japan become the social main sense. Gradually the Russian aggression exposed, and China formed the movement to against Russia. And with the trend of pro-Japanese raised up, the Eastern Miscellany showed its bright pro-Japanese attitude.This article, divided what the Eastern Miscellany reported during the Russo-Japanese war into two parts. The first part introduces the related contents of introduction of the Eastern Miscellany to Japan, then it mainly analyzed Japan’s constitutional,the method of education in Japan, Japan’s military system, and the basic necessities from the Eastern Miscellany. The second part mainly introduced people’s attitude to the reason of the war,and the reason why Russia was brought down. By praising of Japanese, and learning from Japan, the Eastern Miscellany showed its bright pro-Japanese attitude. Besides that, the Eastern Miscellany also referenced some articles which had the pro-Japanese attitude, and cited some unsuccessful cases.This pro-Japanese attitude of the Eastern Miscellany was influenced by the social row of the atmosphere, it was also the product of Japan’s collaboration policy. As the Russo-Japanese war had the special meaning of the fight between the yellow race and the white race, and the battle of autocracy and constitutionalism, the public opinion tended to Japan. Whether advocate or support for Japan, it was the effort which the Eastern Miscellany made to the resist foreign aggression and reinforced the nation.
