Due to its low carrying efficiency, unable to support the point to multipoint service and it has defect in service carrying extensibility, the traditional MSTP (Multi Service Transport Platform Network) is unable to meet the needs of LTE’s large flow traffic and the demand of the communication between the base stations. In contrast to MSTP, IP RAN is based on IP/MPLS technology and it has many advantages such as high load efficiency, supporting multipoint communication and good network scalability, so it can be well used as the backhaul of 3G and LTE base station and can be widely used in the metropolitan area network. The essence of IP RAN is the mobile backhaul network, in simple terms, that is, the IP-based transport network between the radio base station and the base station controller, which has become the mainstream in the industry of mobile backhaul technology. So, it is necessary to study IP RAN technology and its implementation.This thesis mainly done the following work:Firstly, in terms of MPLS technology, L2VPN technology, PW redundancy technology, and bypass PW technology, we researched the latest technology and methods in constructing the IP RAN network at home and abroad especially the technology of MPLS and L2VPN.Secondly, through the requirement analysis, the service bearer scheme of IP RAN network is determined, which is MPLS L2VPN network access MPLS L3VPN backbone. The scheme realizes data traffic between MPLS L2 VPN network and MPLS L3 VPN backbone network by creating a virtual ethernet interface, we called VE-L2VPN and VE-L3VPN, in the convergence layer device, so that the MPLS L2VPN network can access to MPLS L3VPN backbone network. The system is divided into six modules and they are Command Line Configuration module, Interface Management module, MPLS L2VPN module, L2VFIB module, L2VFW module and Date Forwarding in VE Port module. And the modules above were realized in this thesis.Thirdly, in order to improve fault recovery capability of the network, PW redundancy technology and bypass PW technology were implemented for the PW fault and AC fault.Finally, the system test is carried out and the experimental results showed that the system designed in this paper can not only achieve the interoperability of MPLS L2VPN network and MPLS L3VPN backbone network data traffic, the system can switch the flow path in specified time and realized the automatic protection of the PW path and AC path. Thus the network’s fault recovery ability was improved.
