As the core component of a RF and microwave receiver, the frequency source is widely used in communications, radar, instrumentation and other fields, the performance of which determines a series of key indicators of a receiver. In this paper, a broadband frequency source system with very fine resolution is developed, the coverage of which reached 300MHz-15GHz, using a PLL frequency synthesizer and octave-filter matrix structure. The main contents are as follows:First of all, the research background and domestic and international research status and development trends are introduced. A brief overview of three typical solutions of modern frequency source, coherent direct analog synthesis, DDS and PLL is introduced.Then, from the basic theory of RF and microwave, in-depth analysis of key indicators of synthesizers and its significance for the system is given, according to requirements of the subject.Thirdly, based on design constraints, module division and a detailed demonstration of solutions for each module is given. Analysis of the pros and cons of each solution is carried out, and solutions for each module are determined according to requirements of the subject. Ultimately the overall system architecture is accomplished.Fourthly, specific circuits design is introduced based on solutions for each module. Design validation and risks are evaluated by simulation.Finally, debugging and measurements are finished. The measured and design results are compared and analyzed, which shows the system reached design specifications.
