With the rapid development of information technology, the Internet has become an important driving force for economic development. Data transmission depands on network equipment, network devices protocol strategy configuration frequently change with different business applications. A lot of network equipment’s configuration could be very cumbersome and complex, so a separated unified management control of all the devices is very necessary. In a hierarchical local area network, aggregation layer switches is always high-performance chassis devices which can be used as a master to improve management efficiency.This paper studies the network device virtualization technology from both horizontal and vertical dimension. Based on the analysis of the practical needs of vertical management of network equipment, an Ethernet switch vertical management system is designed. The system consists of five sub-modules, they are neighbor discovery, topology collection, membership management, channel maintenance, and data backup. Among them, neighbor discovery mainly collected directly-connected switches information, the topology collection sub-module is charged for summarizing the network topology, locating the link position of switch device; members of management sub-module mainly realizes the member device join or leave the domain and execute batch configuration operations; channel maintenance achieves the goal of distinguishing the different external tasks when visit a switch at the same time; data backup module is used for realizing data backup in case of the master-slave switch. Finally, an experimental test is executed, the results show that the Ethernet switch vertical management system works well.The ultimate direction of network development is to separate software control decision-making and data hardware forwarding, the system simplifies protocols and applications for policy deployment, reduces complexity of network management and has a good practical significance and application value.
