With the advent of network and digitalization, great changes have taken place in the evolution of library and information science in China, and the research content continues to expand. Core journals, as major carriers in academic communication, are able to reflect the actual situation. Comprehensive studies on core journals have crucial academic significance and social value. Some scholars based on journal articles to qualitative or quantitative analysis of subject areas, but many use keywords or subject from the perspective of the research content, rare studies about Library and Information science in China from the regional perspective to study on visualization of space-time evolution discipline. Based on academic papers published on nineteen core journals in library and information science from 1987 to 2011, which come form A Guide to the Core Chinese periodical compiled by Peking University library(2012 edition), this research synthesizes bibliometrics, content analysis, spatial method and comparative method in order to stress regional characteristics and visualize the development and evolution of library and information science. First, based on sample data, this study carries out quantitative research to analyze the general features of scientific papers on library information and science. Furthermore, it explores the research focuses, constructions and features of this subject by applying word frequency statistics and co-keyword analysis. With the help of Geographical Information System and Ucinet software, this study also aims to visualize the changes in research focuses during different historical periods. Second, by using spatial statistics and the center-of-gravity method manipulated by GIS and spatial data mining, this study illustrates the temporal-spatial distribution of library information and science in China. Finally, this study tracks changes in space center of gravity in disciplinary research in a visual way, and discuss the diving factors behind these changes.1. With regards to various types and forms of bibliographic data, it is essential to stipulate consolidated standards and norms in order to guarantee the uniqueness of the data. The author comprehensive collects all citations in 19 kinds of core journals from 1987 to 2011, then deletes data of the message classes literature and supplement, and form 88909 valid data. It includes using the name of current issue as the journal title, regulating data collected from renamed or combined or abbreviated originations and comparing date ranged at tier one units, adding regional information according to working information about the first author, combining irregular keywords, removing commonly-used words and generic terms.2. This study carries out research on basic characteristics of Chinese library and information science papers. Results showed that papers on Chinese library information and science overall rise by waves of ups and downs, and undergone four periods, including restoration, automation, networking, fast-growing. Studies on library information and science are widely spread, but not in balance as a whole. Relevant studies are mainly conducted in well-developed eastern regions, and they are rare in western regions. Peking, Guangdong, Hubei and Jiangsu are research centres of library information and science. Wang Zhijin, Qiu JunPing, Wang ShiWei, Ma HaiQun, Jiang YongFu are outstanding in prolific authors, and prolific authors mainly concentrated in the Middle East and northeast region. Wuhan university, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing university is the largest output of institutions, and Colleges and universities is the absolute main force of library information science research in China.3. This study carries out research on space-time evolution of hotspots and important topics in the Chinese library and information science papers. The paper has made some high frequency keywords co-occurrence matrix, visually display nine knowledge topics about library and information science in China Using Ucinet and GIS tools. They are Information resources construction, information organization, information services, library management, library automation, database construction, digital library and information science research. According to the results, each subject study shows obvious characteristics of sequential, and nine of research topics initiated in Beijing, and two of research topics initiated in Hubei, then extended to other regions of the country.4. Based on GIS, carrying out research on the spatial distribution and topic evolution of library information and science. The different stages of development show characteristics of the times closely integrated research topics. Academic papers mainly focus on themes of library information industry, document resources construction, Literature classification and catalogue from 1987 to 1994. Library automation, database establishment, information services and relevant topics become hot topics among scholars from 1995 to 2000. Scholars become especially keen on studying topics like digital library, information organization, information services, and information retrieval from 2001 to 2005. Introduction of knowledge management, informetrics and competitive intelligence are research priorities from 2006 to 2011.5. Based on GIS, studying the transfers of the center of gravity in published papers on Chinese library information and science. The result shows that research centers focused on library information and science are located in southeast of China, i.e. Anhui, Jiangsu and Henan. The path of the movement within these three provinces presents a shape of hook, from county Xiao in Suzhou city, Anhui province to county Feng in Xuzhou city, Jiangsu province to county Yucheng, county Xiayi, county yucheng, county Liangyun, county Yucheng, county Xiayi in Shangqiu city, Henan province to Jiaocheng district in Haozhou city, county Linyuan in Fuyang city, county Taihe, Jiaocheng district in Haozhou city, Anhui province. The range of these activities covers an area of 6,603 square kilometers-east longitude from 115.24° to 116.4° and west latitude from 32.57° to 34.29°. Before 2000, growth rates in Tianjin and Shandong are higher than growth rates in Guangdong, Jiangsu and Zhejiang, which prompt research centers to transfer to northeast of China. From 2001 to 2005, research centers shift to south by west parts of China since the number of published papers in Zhejiang, Guangdong, and Jiangsu increases significantly. From 2006 to 2011, research centers return to northwest of China result from the increase of published papers in Peking, Tianjin and Sichuan. the changes of the amount of theses in more developed regions directly affect gravity of space migration of studies in the Library and Information Science.
