A Study On The Current Developments And Problems Of Taiwan-related TV News Programs

The media communication between the mainland and Taiwan started from November 1,1987. As the very important part of the communication, Taiwan-related TV news programs witness the development of cross-strait relations. More and more Taiwan-related TV news programs have started to transform since 2009. Under this background, the thesis focuses on the current developments and problems of Taiwan-related TV news programs. On the basis of researching the characteristics of time and space in Taiwan-related TV news programs, the research with the in-depth interview methods supported by simple survey, chooses these programs as the study samples, such as "Across the Taiwan Strait" by CCTV," Cross-strait Express " by South East TV, "Cross-strait Midday report" by South East TV, " Cross-strait Nighttime report" by South East TV, "Cross-strait news" by Xiamen TV and "Greater China Live" by Shenzhen TV, to collect first-hand informtaions from frontline practitioners, experts and scholars in related fields and data on Taiwan audience. According to a large number of literature and interviews, the thesis analysis the current developments after transformation in three aspects:program content, program formation and program audience, and summarizes five problems:the contradiction between policy propaganda and news operation, the contradiction between public demand and reality layout, the contradiction between various audience and simplifying program, the contradiction between business development and deficiency of men, the contradiction between audienc rating and political propaganda.This thesis reached some suggestions, like setting up permanent institutions between the mainland and Taiwan, improving cooperation and specialization, enhancing various communication, strengthening professional guide and increasing more channels.
