Multi-protocol Label Switching technology is developing rapidly since it was first proposed at IETF. MPLS plays an important role in next generation network because of its advantages in fast-forwarding and multi-service support. With the widely use of MPLS in Traffic Engineering and QoS and so on, higher requirements for MPLS’s reliability has been put forward. The Fast Reroute technology based on MPLS Traffic Engineering is a local protection mechanism. It makes sure that MPLS network can quickly recover from link failure or node failure. It has significant influence on the protection of MPLS network.This paper focused on the reseach of Fast Reroute which is based on MPLS Traffic Engineering. And it realized the Fast Reroute according to RFC 4090. This paper mainly studies the Facility Backup and One-to-One Backup which is proposed in RFC 4090 and analyzes the signaling process of the two methods. Then it compares the two methods, and finally realizes Fast Reroute based on Facility Backup method. At the same time, it makes improvements to node protection and adds PathErr triggering FRR processing. It can protect links on both sides of the protected node. This method pre-builds a Bypass LSP, and binds the Bypass LSP with Primary LSP, which greatly accelerates the switching speed when failure occurs.This paper can be divided into five parts. Firstly, it analyzes the research status of MPLS protection mechanisms. Secondly, it tells the basic knowledge of MPLS and MPLS Traffic Engineering, and analyzes several protection mechanisms of MPLS. Thirdly, this paper studies the RSVP-TE protocol and Fast Reroute mechanism, and analyzes the signaling process of RSVP-TE and Fast Reroute. Fourthly, this paper finally realizes the Facility Backup method based on RSVP-TE, and gives some relevant processes. Finally, a test was carried out, which verified the effectiveness of the method. The experimental results how that the method can protect the MPLS network very well.
