With the explosive growth of the network scale and the emergence of a lot of new services, how to improve the QoS of the network becomes the object. The traditional Internet protocols fail to address the problem of network congestion and performance degradation resulting from the inefficient resource allocation under heavy traffic load. Therefore, how to optimize the network resource utilization, balance the load on the link and improve the performance of fault recovery have become the major task of Internet Traffic Engineering.MPLS can help to optimizing the utilization of network resource and improving the performance of network. Taking use of Multi-Protocol Label Switching with its efficient support of recovery mechanism provides basic methods for facilitating Traffic Engineering. Therefore, fault recovery has become an important research area in MPLS Traffic Engineering. The backup path should be pre-configured for the protected LSP by MPLS fault recovery mechanism in order to ensure that the reliable application can get fast recovery treatment. The fast reroute model based on MPLS spanning tree (FRST) and its fault tolerant routing algorithm are proposed. While the network topology are changed and that caused by faults in the network device or links, the fast reroute is completed with the explicit path LSP assignment technology and the span tree of MPLS topology and that avoid the breakdown of the entire network, increase the network usability, ensure the network reliability and improve the entire network performance, through the simulation of FRST by NS2, its performance is better than Haskin Model and Makam Model; it has the equivalent reroute time as the Haskin Model, but avoid the long delay of Haskin Model and high packet loss rate of Makam Model. In addition, its performance dose not been affected by the location of the failure link.
