With the exploring increase of the users and traffic on Internet , the proLem of network congestion and insufficience of available network resource has become more and more obvious, at the same time,many new applications require different QoS of Internet .Traffic engineering is trying to settle all of these problems.The current technology of traffic engineering is built on lip over ATM, which becomes outdated due to new network communication technology's appearing and developing. It is exigent for JSPs to seek a kind of new technology to replace its current functions without its inherent complexity to administrate and extend.MPLS is the most promising technology that is commended by the industry.But because MPLS technology has not reach universal standards,and backbone of MPLS technology hasn't been used in large scales,there is few integrated TE schemes based on MIPLS that can be seen.Based on the background of this,the author is trying to discuss and research the design of such scheme. The scheme given in this paper involves four modules :packet forwarding module,information distribution module,path selection module and signaling module.Each of the modules is independent function part, with open interface between them so that the scheme can be correct easily when a better project of some module appearsinside the module ,considering to minimizing the risk in configuration and execution, the author trying to make full use of current technoLogied and protocol to extend and combine instead of introducing many new technology. The extension of IGP and RSVP has been introduced to apply to the process of distributing information and building a LSP tunnel. The structure of ths paper is as following: in chapter one the author introduce the research background of this paper,including the reason why traffic engineering appears and the problem in exist. The localization and fundational principle has been analyzed in cahapter two.Finally ,the author discuss the principle of TE based on MPLS and its advantage when applying to IP network in future. In chapter three, the author expound the main features of MPLS that applying to trffic engineering such as its pivotal components etc. Stress is laid on chapter four,which brings forward a feasible implemention scheme,detailed demand and performance target is first given, then the basic framework of the scheme.Finally the author expound the implemention of every parts,and emphasizes extension of RSVP signaling,also in this chapter,the author depicts by an instance how a LSP is built,how traffic is transmitted and how LSP is rerouted when necessary. Chapter five gives a sum-up and view the paper,compares the process by two signaling protocols,analysis the shortages of the scheme and indicates where to improve on, and in the end gives a view to the foreground of its appliance in the future.
