Fiber Channel (FC) protocol, is the serial data communication protocol which is developed by ANSI (American National Standards Institute). It has some good characteristics, such as low latency, high reliability, high transmission speed and long transmission distance, and it is the best choice for a new generation of advanced integrated avionics system, a unified high-speed communication networks. With the continuous development of avionics systems, FC protocol has been widely used in the avionics network system for its high-speed, low-latency, high reliability, timeliness and other fine features. In order to meet the growing exchange requirements of avionics switching network system, the number of the communication port in the conventional switching topology FC switches is increasing. It makes extremely difficult to monitor and manage the data flow, resulting in such problems as increasing difficulty of data flow analysis, low efficiency of fault location and removal in the practical application among the FC switch. If a program about monitoring and managing the data flow can be proposed on the basis of the FC switch architecture, and some alternative real-time monitoring or functional management can be proceeded for the input/output port data streams, it can not only make the data flow testing and analysis faster and more convenient, but also improve the efficiency of troubleshooting in the practical application of FC switches.Based on the project of multiport FC switch chip’s implementation and verification which is done by the company’s project team. This thesis make an intensive study of the characteristics of the FC protocol,FC network and the data structure, and design a kind of monitor port module which can be used to monitor the FC switch chip’s communication port real-timely, this is an original design in design principle. The main content of this paper is as follows:1. The analysis and research to the FC protocol in layered model and the data format is done, and making a brief introduction of a FC sub-protocol, FC-AE-ASM protocol, which is involved is this paper. Afterwards, the analysis of FC network based on the FC protocol is done, which include some fields of the communication characteristics, the information exchanging form, and the network topology of FC network.2. Analyzing the basic structure of FC switches, and on this basis, the whole FC switch chip architecture is determined, which makes a platform for the implementation of the monitor port module.3. Making a design of monitoring port module. The design of monitor port module use the pipelined design method, subdividing the whole method of the function and structure layer by layer, and finally implement it using Verilog hardware description language. The top-level monitor port module includes several sub-modules as follows: monitor configuration and management module, message ID query module, monitor data writing control module, monitor data dispatch module, monitor data transmitting control module, CPU port transmitting data process module, CPU port receiving data process module and so on. The monitor port module can work under three monitoring mode (input monitoring mode, output monitoring model, message ID monitoring mode), this can meets different monitoring needs.4. Making a module-level verification and a virtual-platform verification which is based on System - Verilog. There are a total of 78 test cases for this monitor port module, which include 38 test cases under the rate of 1.0625 Gbps and 38 test cases under the rate of 2.125 Gbps. After verification, all of the test cases for the monitor port module are qulified, this indicates that the functions of this module can meet the requirements and expectations.
