With the advent of the era of mass data, data transmission and storage requires a new mode, which should own the ability of higher rate. The use of Fibre-Channel technology(FC), which can run up to 10 Gbps with a stable transmission quality and free of Electron-magnetic noise, has become a new trend to many country and manufacturers.According to the high data rate requirements in design and the current development in FC, the thesis chooses the third type of service in FC as the design object. Based on the analysis of the architecture of FC protocol, we select the Stratix IV chip as the platform to develop the FC protocol using Verilog Hardware Description Language(VHDL). Thesis elaborates the design and implementation of FC-0 layer, FC-1 layer, and FC-2 layer’s function. The design reaches a highest 8.5Gbps data rate and supports third-class service point to point topology. The main contents include:(1) Realizing FC-0 layer function by the SFP+ module and serial transceiver of Stratix IV, the high-speed fiber link is turned into a 40 bit parallel data of lower speed;(2) By the design of 8B/10 B codec, transmission word boundary alignment, the synchronization state machine and the port state machines, the operation of FC-1 layer, such as the primitive data alignment, sync and link activation can be achieved consequently;(3) For FC-2 layer,we design the frame-send-state-machine to assemble and transmit the data in accordance with the standard format;(4) Designing of data link frame for communication parameters negotiation between 2 ports, we pass the architecture login, port login of FC-2 layer;(5) Design the buffer to the buffer control strategy to control the frames received and transmitted process.Finally, each module in design has been tested in board-level and Signaltap II logic analyzer online. The fiber chain activation, fabric login, port login, login process, flow control strategies are all verified by test, and data rate of 8.5Gbps also.
